Il piccone, la pala e l'ascia 

Tralasciando il discorso delle armi e parlando invece di strumenti da costruzione, troviamo dapprima il piccone e la pala, attrezzi tipici del manovale, fatti di metallo con un manico in legno:

"Nel sesto giorno del nostro imprigionamento, il capitano Nemo, giudicando troppo lenta l'opera del piccone e della pala, decise di schiantare lo strato di ghiaccio che ancora ci divideva dal mare libero" (PARTE SECONDA, CAP.10, PAG.193).

Altro importante strumento per la lavorazione di utensili in legno è l'ascia, entrata nell'immaginario collettivo anche come arma:

"Con un colpo d'ascia il capitano Nemo troncò il formidabile braccio che scivolò sulla scala, torcendosi" (PARTE SECONDA, CAP.11, PAG.204).

Pick, shovel and axe

Another important tool for working wood tools is the axe, entered in the collective imagination as a weapon:

"With one blow of the axe, Captain Nemo cut this formidable tentacle, that slid wriggling down the ladder" (SECOND PART, CHAPTER 11, PAGE 252).
